Structural diabetes in Iran's industry: a crisis of inefficiency on the path to sustainable development; Iran's environmental challenges; from Lake Urmia to undesirable industrial consequences

This article surveys the factors influencing our industry's failure to align with sustainable development. By applying the concept of "structural diabetes," challenges such as the absence of modern management systems, political and local pressures, and the insufficient use of analytical data are examined.

The study's findings indicate that only 25% of Iranian companies have taken effective steps toward sustainable development, and none have achieved significant results in the fields of environmental protection and social responsibility. Areas of teamwork, financial discipline, and structural evolution are among the problems that the companies face. (According to data analysis).
This article offers solutions such as strengthening database processes, reducing political interference, and revising traditional structures to achieve sustainable development.
Iran, a country rich in natural and human resources, experiences a condition in its industry similar to a diabetic patient: an inefficient system unable to adapt to global changes. This article, through a comprehensive examination of the structural and managerial problems in the Iranian industry, analyzes the factors that prevented the realization of sustainable development. While many advanced countries have moved towards sustainable activities through environmental assessment tools and modern team-building, the Iranian industry is still trapped in traditional decision-making chains and non-agile structures.
‎Mahatma Gandhi states: "The earth can meet man's needs, but not his greed." In the twentieth century, technological progress fascinated humans, and they recklessly exploited Earth's resources without considering the consequences, in the way of development.
Today, the world is on the eve of an environmental crisis, and there is no place for unplanned and destructive developments. Historically, Western industrial countries (such as the United States and European nations) played a significant role in global climate change. Although before the industrial era, Iran had little impact on global climate change, it has increased over the past half-century.
