Serious intend of Iran & Afghanistan for Joint Investment in the Mining Sector

According to IMIDRO's Public Relations, Mohammad Aghajanlou in a meeting with Afghan investment officials stated:

In the recent meeting, we decide to form the "Exploration, Laboratory, and Extraction" committee ( With responsibility of Geological Survey and Mineral Explorations Organization) and the "Investment and Construction of Factories and Joint Special Zones" committee ( With responsibility of IMIDRO) for the development of Afghanistan's mines.

He added: Despite various opportunities for cooperation in the mining sector and to make the affairs operational, we should start projects including a prepared infrastructure and can be launched more quickly.

Proposal to Establish a Border Gemstone Market and Build a Lead and Zinc Processing Plant

The chaiman of the executive board of IMIDRO, stated:

The processing at mines with existing infrastructure is more economical, and due to the lack of transportation and energy infrastructure near Afghanistan's mines, our proposal is to establish a border market for gemstones and build a lead and zinc processing plant in the free zones on both sides of the border.

‎ ‎Investment Guarantee in Afghanistan‎

Khalil-Rahman, head of the Afghanistan Investment Facilitation , at the mentioned meeting stated:

"During the last two days, effective,beneficial and promising meetings were held with Iranian brothers. We need to implement the memorandum of understanding which was inked two years ago and we would like to take advantage of the Iran's abilities to develop our mining sector. ‎

‎ He added: "In order to equip the laboratory, the cooperation of Iranian experts is needed. Also, in the field of exploration, extraction and processing, the governmental and private sectors of Iran have good experience in this regard.‎

‎While mentioning that Afghanistan's laws have guaranteed the investment of foreign companies, added:

"Investors whenever they desire can transfer their investment to their country ." Security is the responsibility of the government. If needed a separate commitment, we are ready to perform it. ‎

‎He added: "We would like to establish a common market and factory in a part of the territory of Afghanistan and Iran."‎
