Red Metal Price Increases After $300 Drop/ New Records in Global Copper Production Chain

According to IMIDRO's public relations, the International Copper Study Group (ICSG) in its new report noted:” global copper activists produced about 11 million and 789 thousand tons of refined copper from the beginning of January to the end of May 2025.”. This figure was 11 million and 429 thousand tons in the same period of 2024.

During the mentioned five months, 14,377,000 tons of refined copper capacity were added to global copper refining plants, compared to 13,338,000 tons in the same period last year.

Global Copper Production Increases by 2.7%

Global copper mines, produced approximately 9,521,000 tons of concentrate in the first five months of 2025. This figure was 9,269,000 tons in the same period of 2024, indicating an increase of approximately 2.7% in the global production of these mines. Of this amount, 4,504,800 tons were from the continent of "America," 1,881,000 tons from "Asia," 1,819,600 tons from "Africa," 972,200 tons from "Europe," and 342,900 tons from "Oceania."

Copper mine capacity increases by 3.4%

During the same period, the capacity of global copper mines reached 12 million and 105 thousand tons, indicating an increase of approximately 3.4% compared to the capacity of the same period in 2024 (11 million and 706 thousand tons).

6% increase in copper smelting

Copper smelting production reached 10,233,700 tons in February 2025, showing a 6% increase. This figure was 9,657,500 tons in the same period last year.

The red metal rose after a $300 decline

According to this report, the one-month chart of global copper prices shows that after a drop of about $300 on August 2, the price of this metal has again taken an upward trend and on August 15, 2025 has reached about $9780 per ton.
