A Note from Mohammad Aghajanlou, Deputy Minister and IMIDRO’s Chairman of the Executive Board of Directors, on the anniversary of the Tabas coal mine incident:

Mine Workers safety; The Necessity of Sustainable Development

The 31st of Shahrivar (Iranian Calendar) is a reminder of the tragic and bitter Tabas mine incident; a day when a group of miners lost their lives in the effort to build their country. This day is an opportunity to reiterate the high standing of miners and the importance of safety principles in mines.

Mine Workers safety; The Necessity of Sustainable Development

Miners are valuable national assets who drive the wheels of industry with their excellent efforts.
Standing by the mining community and miners, and working with all relevant organizations to improve working conditions and safety in mines is IMIDRO’s priority.
Safety in mines, especially in coal mines, is one of the most important priorities in the mining industry. It is obvious that no development will be sustainable without attention to the health and safety of workers, and this issue is of special importance to IMIDRO. We believe that playing a role in this area is a national duty.
In this regard, IMIDRO, to enhance safety in the country's coal mines, conducts domestic training courses and strives to organize specialized safety courses for coal mines at the national level using the educational capabilities of outstanding instructors from Russia.
The coal mine safety training project using VR (virtual reality) technology is underway in collaboration with one of the universities in the country. We are seeking to improve safety and productivity by utilizing up-to-date technologies such as mine smartization. We are striving to engage and cooperate with the Ministry of Labor to review or develop relevant safety standards. Collaboration with the Ministry of Health to enhance methods of health risk evaluation in mines has also recently begun.
According to the order of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, with the construction and equipping of 6 bases by IMIDRO, the construction and equipping of development safety and rescue bases for coal mines have been targeted. In this regard, the rescue base in Tabas has been inaugurated, and 3 other bases are also ready for inauguration. The total investment of IMIDRO in the Tabas base has reached 4000 billion rials so far. In the last year, 2000 billion rials were allocated for the purchase of safety equipment for the country's coal mines, and this year IMIDRO will invest an additional 7000 billion rials for this purpose.
The improvement of the coal mine road in Tabas, which is 50 kilometers long, with IMIDRO’s 1,000 billion rials investment (initial amount) in it, is also underway. It is worth mentioning that, following IMIDRO's efforts to secure energy, the Tabas thermal power plant has also been launched.
Hoping that with the continuation of solidarity among government institutions, the private sector, and the mining community, we will witness a future where the efforts and endeavors of miners are accompanied by peace, security, and dignity. The memory of those lost in this incident will remain alive and inspiring in our hearts, and we extend our condolences to the grieving families of these dear ones, honoring the memory of the deceased.
