IMIDRO, as the mine and mining industries arm of the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, is preparing to implement the national polysilicon production project in the country.
According to IMIDRO's public relations, constructing a silicon chain is being implemented in line with the government's macro-objective of developing "high-tech" industries in the country. According to forecasts, the polysilicon project with an annual production capacity of 30,000 tons will be carried out.
Regarding the obtained permits, the implementation of the project is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year in Parsian Special Economic Zone (a subsidiary of IMIDRO), located in the west of Hormozgan province. IMIDRO is implementing the above program with an approach focused on developing strategic mining industries with high added value, and its overall plan includes the polysilicon, ingot, and wafer chain. According to a document approved by the government, Iran has defined production of 40,000 tons of polysilicon in the Seventh Development Plan, of which 30,000 tons will be implemented by IMIDRO. IMIDRO, considering the government's plan to develop solar power plant systems and production chains in our country, has brought the polysilicon production project—used as the raw material for producing silicon solar cells—on the verge of implementation. Silicon and its compounds are also used in the medical, polymer, and electronics industries.
