The operating of the second unit of the Bandar Abbas desalination plant, as the largest seawater desalination complex in Iran, not only ensures a stable water supply for the industries of the central plateau, but also is a unique and special project in terms of water treatment scale, development of domestic manufacturing, investment value, and its environmental knowledge; a project being performed with the support and facilitation of imidro and the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade.

Launching the country's largest desalination unit, a strategic response to the water crisis / Desalination capacity of 140 million cubic meters, a national infrastructure for production stability.

According to IMIDRO's public relations, "The construction and operation of the second desalination unit in Bandar Abbas is, in fact, a strategic response to the country's water scarcity crisis.

With the implementation of this project, the transfer of fresh water from the Persian Gulf to the central plateau was carried out sustainably and industrially for the first time in the country.

This project was implemented with the investment and participation of Gol-Gohar Mining and Industrial Company, National Industries Copper Industries, and Chadormalu Mining and Industrial Company, under the guidance and support of imidro and the Ministry of Industry, Mine, and Trade. The operation was inaugurated last week by President Pezeshkian. This unit now guarantees the water supply for major industries in the provinces of Hormozgan, Kerman, Yazd, and Isfahan."

IMIDRO's Role in the Project’s Implementation

According to Ehsan Ansari, Managing Director of the Persian Gulf Water Supply and Transmission Company (WASCO), the successful implementation of the second unit of the enormous & massive Bandar Abbas desalination project by WASCO is undoubtedly due to the strategic support and continuous backing of the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization ( imidro).

By playing a pivotal role in policymaking, guidance, and coordination among the investing companies—including Gol-Gohar, National Iranian Copper Industries Company, and Chadormalu—this organization facilitated the effective synergy of financial, technical, and executive resources.

Ansari emphasized: "Overall, IMIDRO's role in this project has not been limited to financial support, but also includes macro-leadership, structural supervision, and legal and environmental support. This multifaceted role can rightly be considered a successful model of constructive participation between the government and the private sector in the development of the country's vital infrastructure. It also paves the way for the continuation of major water transfer projects from the Persian Gulf to the central plateau of Iran."
